Meet Veleria Levy
EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP ROOTED IN A CIRCLE OF SERVICE
Veleria M. Levy is a leader shaped by service, accountability, and the unwavering belief that communities thrive when every person is seen, valued, and protected. Her campaign for NC House District 99 is grounded in a Circle of Service — showing up, listening deeply, delivering with integrity, and welcoming constituents to “Check Levy” whenever she needs to hear hard truths or recalibrate her approach. For Veleria, public office is not a platform. It is a partnership.
With more than two decades of experience in public health, DEI strategy, and statewide policy advocacy across North and South Carolina, Veleria has dedicated her career to building systems where fairness is the standard and inclusion is non-negotiable. She is known for strengthening community health networks, fighting discriminatory legislation, expanding access for women and LGBTQ communities, and guiding organizations in building cultures that reflect the full diversity of the Carolinas.
As the former Executive Director of the North Carolina AIDS Action Network, she led advocacy efforts across the state during a period of unprecedented attacks on LGBTQ rights and DEI protections. She pushed back against harmful bills targeting trans youth, reproductive freedom, and access to care, and ensured that community voices — especially Black women, LGBTQ people, and young leaders — were at the center of statewide decision-making. Her leadership extended beyond the policy arena, providing direct support to families navigating health and safety challenges when traditional systems fell short.
Today, as President & CEO of HerHealth Consulting, LLC, Veleria continues her work of designing equity-centered programs, strengthening safety net systems, and expanding healthcare access for marginalized communities. Her deep experience in the 340B program, where she secured new contracts that generated millions in revenue for safety net providers, demonstrates her ability to build systems that protect community health while supporting economic stability.
Veleria’s life is a testament to resilience, faith, and service. As the daughter of Joseph Earl “Big Earl” Levy Jr., she carries forward his legacy of mentorship, purpose, and “staying on track.” As a parent advocating for a child living with epilepsy, she understands urgency, systems navigation, and the power of a mother’s determination. And as someone called upon in moments of community crisis, she embodies the accessibility and compassion she expects from public leadership.
District 99 is a vibrant, diverse, rapidly growing community with immense potential. It deserves a representative who shows up consistently, listens with humility, answers the phone, pushes back against harmful bills, and champions policies rooted in lived experience and real community need.
